It was passed down to him by his father, who bought it in 1973 after a future Dean convinces him to buy it over a 1964 VW Van in the episode In The Beginning. Altogether, at least nine separate 1967 Chevy Impalas were used in filming Supernatural, including one of the original iterations which was totaled at the end of the first season. While in the show, the car was rebuilt, the actual stunt car was completely destroyed.
